Making the switch to HD digital surveillance

The transition of traditional analog video surveillance to digital/ IP surveillance has been fairly slow, even though it has picked up significant momentum over the past few years. In fact, the increasing demands of modern surveillance seem to render these traditional systems obsolete and impractical.

Security professionals are moving into the world of HD surveillance with the aim of obtaining better video quality and higher resolution. One of the key features of this transition is the use of high definition IP cameras. While the switch to IP surveillance seems to be merely a matter of time- a case of “When” rather than “If”, there are several design and execution considerations that need to be weighed in carefully to manage the migration cost-effectively. Check out this article from Rick Ramsay of Avigilon who enumerates these design considerations to make the switch from analog to HD digital surveillance.
