With the plethora of security cameras now available in the market and the increasing requirements that these need to fulfill, selection of the right camera is not an easy task.

Most importantly, the issue is to be able to do an apples-to-apples comparison between security camera products from the same manufacturer and those between other manufacturers. Typically, the differences are too subtle for even experienced buyers.

Therefore, getting a comparison tool that provides a tabular comparison of the technical specifications  is indeed simply great. Here’s how you can do it on a major security industry portal from Europe, SourceSecurity.com

a. Go to the CCTV cameras section here.

b .  Select any of the parameters that you want to specify [you can select one or many]: for example, select “Colour” if you are looking for colour CCTV cameras only, select the brand (Make) if you wish to, or say, a type, such as pan tilt or thermal.

c. Click Search and view the search results. Now, the best part is after this step.

d. On the search results page, one has the option to select up to 5 products and click on the Compare link.  This gives results in a neat tabular format, which gives a clear comparison of each technical parameter.

Obviously, there are some limitations with the comparison tool. Chief among them is that only 5 cctv camera models can be compared at once.  For models from the same series from the same manufacturer, some kind of visual differentiation would also add even more value to the comparison. But then may be we are getting greedy….
